Will the Real Palin Please Stand Up

Sarah Palin has been a national figure for just nine days, and in those nine days she has yet to be definitively defined by anybody. The Obama campaign has looked Sarah Palin square in the eye and said "beat us; we challenge you to beat us." So far it's working, and the McCain campaign isn't making any halftime adjustments. Sarah Palin has yet to make a solo appearance, she has yet to make a press appearance, she has yet to author anything (including her page at JohnMcCain.com which just recites the acceptance speech written by Bush's speechwriter), and above all she has yet to convey any aurora of capability. If the Republican's are to have any hope of winning, which is slim right now, Sarah Palin must become a known quantity.

The McCain campaign has nobody to blame but themselves; they can't blame the media, because they aren't cooperating with the media, they can't blame sexism because they've already entirely botched that argument, but what they can do is attempt to define Palin themselves; they just have yet to be successful.

I think part of the GOP's problem stems from the nature of Sarah Palin the politician; she's the political equivalent of the sports fan whose favorite team is the one who just claimed the title. She is incapable of understanding the plight of a Cubs fan because she's too busy buying Red Sox merchandise. Nobody will take Sarah seriously until she reaches into her closet and pulls out that Cubs jersey. The McCain campaign is apparently waiting for an EastBay order to arrive, meanwhile the media is trying to decipher where she actually stands and Obama is content to wait for the debates. If Palin can't make a decision soon (or is not allowed to make a decision soon), it won't matter whether they make the playoffs.

Until then the knocking will grow louder as voters continue to ask for the real Sarah Palin to please stand up.

No one can say that Sarah Palin is an empty suit, she has a long history in politics. Unfortunately for US (if she and McShame is elected)her political history is completely opposite of her vocalized positions during the first week of National appearances. Fortunately the American people will not allow Mc Cane to hide her away in Alaska with cameo appearances at debates until the Election. She will be vetted and exposed. This is a reckless choice for VP of this Country by John Mc Same leave no question to his bad judgement, and makes him a bad choice for President of the United States.

This woman is a joke! She left her city in debt, she sold the state plane at a loss. She has a Pastor that makes Rev. Wright look like playtime with Big Bird. She abused her power as Gov. She wanted to burn books she did not like. No waym not now, no how will she be in the WH!
From what I have read on the blogs and in discussions with people, the only people entused with her are te GOP base! er views are to radical. Woman are insulted by this pick.
She cannot speak before the media because she knows nothing. Jesus, who she claims to love, was a Community Organizer. So were Elizabeth Stanton, MLK, Jr. Chevez, Ghandi, A Philip Randolph, etc. What an insult! She is an airhead!
I hope the media give her the once over the way they did Obama. They left no stone unturned. Do the same for Palin to such an extent, she will hot tail it back to AK with her head between her legs

As the social heirarchy goes, if you are not pretty, you should at least be smart and nice to people. Given McCain is dumb as a rock (bottom 1% of his class) and viciously mean (Google "McCain+temper") while being 72 years old, his only recourse was to pick a kind person with brains (none in the party) or arm-candy.

Guess which pick won out?

The probem is, will the media/ap do their job? They have ignored Mccains
blunder, distortions, lies and out and out fraud (the so called religious
debate where he knew questions ahead of time) so how can we expect
fair reporting from them?
We just have to be intelligent voters realizing we are not going to get
the truth from the media.

Biden did extensive interviews with every major network in the week after he was chosen for the Veep slot...

Could Palin have avoided the onslaught if she were to have gone on some interviews and spoken for herself? Probably some of it.

Is there a reason she did not decide to do interviews? Definitely! Probably something to do with her inability to be coherent, especially given she did not know the duties of the Veep just last month!

Is anyone suspicious that she is not going to do any press conferences or interviews through the election? Is anyone suspicious that her only unscripted appearence will be the debate with Biden, where he will have to "go easy" on her, lest he look "sexist." I sure as hell am.

So tell ya what... I'll give Sarah a chance if she goes in front of a mic without any notes or prompters, and takes some questions that require her to turn her gears.

How about it Johnny? Can you talk her into it, or are you too spooked. I'll bet you can even get them to promise to stick to the "issues" and avoid character.

Oh yeah, you don't like to talk about issues. And only Democrats can have their personal lives examined.

Seems if I am looking for consistancy and the avoidance of hypocrisy in this campaign, Johnny war hero, I lose!

If America let the Repubs steal this election. I am just done with the electoriate. I would be convinced they are all crooked. To let this woman, Palin just skip into the WH with no knowledge of foreign policy or the economy is just a disgrace. She is mean, nasty and racist. She is very undesirable.

I loved the quote "she's the political equivalent of the sports fan whose favorite team is the one who just claimed the title. She is incapable of understanding the plight of a Cubs fan because she's too busy buying Red Sox merchandise. Nobody will take Sarah seriously until she reaches into her closet and pulls out that Cubs jersey." Sadly, this is what is left of the Grand Old Party. They need a wildcard to save the party. The GOP have become the WWE. Scripted storylines, pops, blade jobs, pulled punches, TLC, etc.....

McCain brought out the base. You know, those people they keep making promises to but never deliver? Yeah, they are still so gullible and low-info voters that all they care about is, "Wow, she looks perdy and just like a modern day soccer mom."

She's a cut-throat person. McCain himself better be careful (if he hasn't already tapped into her).

The repugs are practicing mind over matter ... they don't mind what we say cause what we say don't matter. They believe they can win the WH by only letting select groups meet with Palin. They don't need to make a national scene and invite a line of questioning that may upset the leaky dingy they are sailing in. AS long as they can control the message and access to it, they stand a good chance of winning. They're going for just enough select groups to put them over the top on the electrial college side; that's all they need to win. Obama needs to make some big waves to swamp the dingy.

McCain better be careful trying to appeal to voters who gravitate toward fluff. He would lose the support of the more reasonable voters. In the end, his election results would look a lot like Bush's approval rating: ~27%

Most of the comments above are laughable. Whenever I actually go and check out something that is supposed to indicate an inconsistency in Gov. Palin's positions (the latest is a Newsweek article indicating that she's not really all that pro-life), I find out that either the reporting or the titling in the story is inaccurate. In the case of the abortion question, it was the Alaska Supreme Court that changed the abortion law, not Palin or even the legislature. Specifically, it rejected a 1997 law requiring parental notification before girls under 16 could get an abortion. Palin even had the attorney general ask for a rehearing, but the court said no.

If people like those who posted above continue to believe the distortions and misinformation that the MSM continues to put out, ambivalence toward Gov. Palin is understandable. Those who actually find out the facts and are able to think rationally for themselves will find out that she's neither a monster nor a fool. Those who don't and can't, won't.

Give me a break...this woman has no credible "executive experience" whatsoever. She represents the same "old boys" line of governing that she claims to be "reforming". As a former repub...this is a excellent example of John McCain lack of good judgment and discretion. To think that he "feels" that Palin is competent enough to lead our nation if something happens to him is very irresponsible and dangerous.

Sarah Palin is a GOP, neo-con creation from Alaska brought to life by the "old boys" network of rethugs that oversee Alaskan oil and resources for their corporate friends. For anyone, with any semblance of intelligence and common sense to believe that McCain's choice was a thoughtful and of good judgment...you are either brainwashed or brain-dead.

Palin may have excited the Republican base, but so far, she has been unable to control her belligerent, toxic tongue. In addition, she has not made any attempt to focus on domestic and/or international issues. She should at least try to sound like the intelligent person she claims to be, rather than playing the role of McCain?s attack dog. But who cares, just as long as it makes the Republicans happy!!
9/10/2008 1:49:10 AM CT

If you turn out the lights and stand in front of a mirror and repeat Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin 3times she will come and scratch your eyes out, just like bloody mary. OMG she's a freak!!!!!!

She'll have us all speaking in tongues in no time. McCain is already doing it!!!!!
EEEEEEK!!!!!! :-0!!! Now thats shock and awe.
